Little Known Ways to Reduce Face Wrinkles

Wrinkles are often thought of as an unavoidable part of getting older. While this might be partially true, there is still a lot you can do to avoid getting wrinkles prematurely, as well as reduce the number of wrinkles you will get altogether.

We discuss face wrinkles in greater detail in our article, Face Wrinkles: An Overview.  Let’s look at what you can do in the “here and now” to prevent wrinkles and maintain your youthful appearance for as long as possible.

  • Drink Plenty of Water

One of the best things you can do for your face, as well as the rest of your skin and body, is to always stay well-hydrated. Well-hydrated skin stays moist and supple, and is much less likely to wrinkle than skin that is dry.

Don’t make the mistake of thinking that coffee and cola can be used to stay well-hydrated, because caffeine is actually an enemy to your skin, since it has a tendency to dehydrate the body. Reducing your salt content can also help your body and skin from becoming dehydrated.

  • Papaya and Other Natural Products Are Your Friend

While it’s true that there are plenty of products on the market that are the result of “good” science and extensive research, but natural products shouldn’t be ignored. One natural substance that is of great benefit to your skin in regards to preventing wrinkles is papaya, which contains plenty of natural enzymes. You can use a commercial facial mask that contains papaya, or make your own by mashing or blending a ripe papaya into a pulp.

There are other natural products that help reduce wrinkling as well, such as using an egg white mask or moisturizing with coconut oil.

  • Use Lotions and Creams that Contain Alpha Hydroxy Acid

In addition to natural products, using facial products, creams and makeup that contain Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) can help protect your skin against wrinkles. These products are based upon natural fruit acids that help prevent and reduce wrinkles. Using an exfoliating product before using these products is also helpful, since exfoliation sloughs off dead skin cells, exposing fresh, healthy skin.

  • Always Use Sunscreen

Although it might be tempting to want to add the golden glow of a suntan to your face, sun is a major source of damage to your skin. Not only will years of exposure to UV rays (from both the sun or from indoor tanning devices) add years of wrinkles to your face, but it can also damage the skin cells to the point of making them susceptible to skin cancer.

Always use a sunscreen of at least SPF 20 daily when exposed to the sun, and use an even higher SPF lotion when exposed to direct sun for extended periods of time, such as when you go to the beach or do yard work.

  • Don’t Smoke!

Smoking is one of the worst things you can do for your skin. Smoking dehydrates the body (including your skin), and the toxic array of chemicals contained in tobacco has a very bad effect on your skin, making it look old, tired, and dull. It is also thought that the physical act of continually having a cigarette in your mouth can cause tiny wrinkles to form around your mouth and lips.

Although aging is an inevitable part of life, there’s no reason to look older than your age by letting wrinkles mar your good looks. By following the simple tips above, you will find that you’ll be able reduce wrinkles, and stay younger looking.
